Rules pertaining to usage of IT resources:
1) No Computer Games (Individual or group) are allowed on the lab’s computers and workstations.
2) The PCs and network printers are strictly for use by students and staffs stationed in the lab. Do not bring your friends or course-mates here to use the PCs or printers. Please be reminded that you are allowed to print ONLY ONE COPY of your thesis or documents.
3)The last person leaving the lab must ensure that all lights are turned off. You are advice to switch off your monitor or set it to screen saver mode so as to prolong CRT life.
4)
You must not remove any items (other than your personal items) from the
lab without permission. Unauthorized removal
of the lab item(s) shall be considered as THEFT and will be treated seriously.
Security Measures:
5)No unauthorized duplicating of the lab key(s). You must not pass or lend your lab key or matric card to anyone else, including your spouse.
6) All personnel must sign in and out in the Visitors’ Book if you have come to the lab on Sunday.
7) All visitors (friends/spouse/children/ex-students/postgraduates from other labs, etc) must sign in and out in the Visitors’ Book provided. They must clearly indicate their purposes of visits as well as the person(s) whom they have discussions with. Please take note that all visitors are not allowed to use any of the network printers to print out their document, thesis, etc.

Social visits (of friends/spouse/children) must be very brief. No social
visitors are allowed to stay in the lab after office
hours.
Saftety Measures:
9) Do not keep any kettle in individual cubicles as it is a possible fire hazard. Use the kettle provided.
10) Do
not leave any rechargeable batteries for charging overnight.
Laboratory Cleanliness:
11)No packet food or drinks are allowed in the lab as we do not want to attract rats, ants or insects to the lab. Food and drinks are STRICTLY PROHIBITED when working on the workstations.
12)Cooking
is STRICTLY PROHIBITED in the laboratory.
General:
13) All RSs who have been around for more than 6 months should put up a poster detailing their research work, including objectives, work done so far, results and future work.
14)Please
try not to prolong your telephone conversations unnecessarily.
Social calls during office hours
are discouraged.
Offenders:
15)First offenders on any of the above rules and regulations will receive a Verbal or Letter of Warning. Repeat violation of the above rules and regulations shall render your expulsion from the lab.
Common Pool PCs:
16) All common pool PCs are rebooted twice weekly and data on D drives purged periodically. Please ensure that you backup your working files regularly.
Cubicle PCs:
17) Staff and students who are issued PCs in cubicles are responsible for the software and information installed/ loaded. You are answerable to the relevant authorities if you are caught to install illegal or unlicensed software. Please refer to NUS Computer Centre's Acceptable Use Policy for IT Resources; this Policy is intended to guide students, faculty, staff and authorised users to use the IT Resources in an effective, ethical and lawful manner.
